AMVETS HELPS FUND EDUCATION FOR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Annual Scholarship Winners Selected

WASHINGTON, June 11 — AMVETS, the nation’s premiere veterans service organization, announced the 2013 winners of its National Scholarship Program.

Graduating high school seniors selected to receive four-year undergraduate scholarships of $4,000 are Alyssa M. Duncan, Bicknell, IN; Marshal G. Martin, York, SC; Tracy L. Mitzelman, Levittown, NY; Katherine C. Quiroz, Roanoke, VA; Randolph C. Read, II, LasVegas, NV; and John P. Skeath, Durango, CO.

Graduating high school senior Monique J. Baca, Denver, CO was selected as the $1,000 scholarship recipient of the JROTC scholarship.

Veterans selected to receive four-year undergraduate scholarships of $4,000 are   Brandon J. Clifford, Virginia Beach, VA; Monica B. Ly, Paramount, CA; and Paula J. Stubbs, Albuquerque, NM.

Veterans Nicole Matthews, Kernersville, NC; and Adrienne M. Rivera, Salida, CA were each selected to receive a $3,000 Memorial Scholarship in the name of Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo.

Veteran Taylor C. Kline, Franklin, PA was selected to receive a $1,000 Henry G. Huestis Memorial Scholarship.

The winners were selected on the basis of academic excellence and financial need. Since its inception in the 1950s, the AMVETS National Scholarship Program has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to veterans and graduating high school students who are sons and daughters or grandchildren of American veterans.

A leader since 1944 in preserving the freedoms secured by America’s Armed Forces, AMVETS provides, not only support for veterans and the active military in procuring their earned entitlements, but also community services that enhance the quality of life for this nation’s citizens.
