About St Louis, MO
An independent city in the U.S. state of Missouri, St. Louis is bordered by the Mississippi River on the east and by St. Louis County on the north, south, and west. St. Louis is known for its German and French heritage and Victorian past and much of the city’s early popularity can be attributed for hosting the 1904 Summer Olympic Games. St. Louis has many nicknames out of which ‘ Gateway City’ and ‘Mound City’ are probably the more popular.
St. Louis boasts of several museums and attractions which include, The St. Louis Art Museum featuring an impressive display of modern art and ancient artifacts, the City Museum, the Missouri History Museum, the famous Cathedral Basilica and the Gateway Arch, which is probably the city's best known landmark.
St. Louis also features many Parks and gardens. This includes Forest Park, which is one of the largest urban parks in the world, The Missouri Botanical Garden, one of the world's leading botanical research centers and The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial located on the downtown riverfront where the city was first founded.
A popular hub for arts and culture, St. Louis boasts of the world-renowned Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra - the second oldest orchestra in the nation. The Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is an annual summer festival of opera performed in English while other popular classical music groups include Arianna String Quartet, and the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus.
Over the years, St. Louis has also built up a reputation for its sporting excellence and critics even rated the city as the ‘Best Sports City’ in 2000. The city is home to the famous St. Louis Cardinals, one of the oldest franchises in Major League Baseball, second in the all-time World Championships winners list with 10 wins.
| MESSAGE FROM OUR NATIONAL COMMANDER
Hello Members and Friends!
We are actively planning what we know will be an outstanding conference for you this year. In concert with our subordinate organizations, we are partnering as we never have before to make sure that your stay in St. Louis is amazing and contains a multitude of opportunities to reconnect and plan for AMVETS success. The Department of Missouri, in addition to planning for an outstanding Missouri night event, are hard at work preparing for our arrival and ensuring the city is ready for us.
While this convention will mark one of the final acts for me as I come to the end of my year as National Commander, I am fully committed to ensuring that we make this meeting a unique experience and I am joined by our entire staff in that effort. If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please contact Jim King at 301-683-4004 or by e-mail at jking@amvets.org.
I look forward to seeing you in St. Louis!
Veterans Serving Veterans,

National Commander Jerry Hotop |
