MYVETWORK TO LAUNCH IN TIME FOR VETERANS DAY

Online social network to cater to the specific needs of veterans and their loved ones

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2008—This Veterans Day, AMVETS will help introduce a new social networking tool to better serve the veterans’ community. MyVetWork (www.MyVetWork.com) is a new online community catering to the specific needs of veterans and their loved ones created by John R. Campbell, a Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam and an AMVETS member.

“The close-knit veterans’ community has been longing for an easy way to connect with one another, to exchange information and expand our local and regional programs,” said AMVETS National Commander Chad Hapner. “MyVetWork is the first-ever free community of military personnel and those who care about them that we can help shape as it grows.”

MyVetWork takes advantage of the latest in social networking technology, allowing users to create relevant online groups based on common interests and individual skill sets. MyVetWork can be used for both social and professional networking, providing veterans with a robust support system that can extend well beyond their time in service.

MyVetWork is open to all who have served in the U.S. military—active duty, National Guard, Reserve, retired, and veterans—as well as family members and those who are active within the veterans’ community.

AMVETS is encouraging members at all levels to sign onto MyVetWork and help populate the online community in time for the Veterans’ Day roll-out.

“We can have a voice in building this community that celebrates and serves veterans not only on Veterans Day, but the other 364 days of the year as well,” said AMVETS National Communications Director Jay Agg. “The more of us who sign on, the more valuable our exchange will be.”

Veterans are encouraged to log onto www.MyVetWork.com, browse the site and create a profile, which only takes about three minutes. Once logged on, veterans can visit the AMVETS group on MyVetWork.
