NATIONAL GUARD ASSOCIATION HONORS TENNESSEE NATIONAL SERVICE OFFICER

Commander Brown thanks Tennessee AMVETS for contributions to the Guard

WASHINGTON, March 5, 2008-The National Guard Association of Tennessee presented AMVETS National Service Officer (NSO) Diane Frates with the coveted Minuteman Award during a ceremony at the association’s headquarters in Nashville.

AMVETS National Commander John P. “JP” Brown III was on hand to acknowledge Frates for her contributions to the Tennessee veterans’ community.

The Tennessee National Guard recognized Frates for her contributions to the Tennessee National Guard in 2007. Over the last year, Frates provided information and support to more than 1,000 members of the Tennessee National Guard on a variety of issues including veterans’ benefits, professional development workshops, marriage enrichment, and retirement briefs.

This is the second consecutive year that the AMVETS NSO in Tennessee has been honored.

The Minuteman Award is presented by the National Guard Association of Tennessee to individuals who have distinguished themselves though exceptional achievement, patriotic acts, highly distinguished service, or outstanding contributions to their community, state, nation, military organization or the Guard association.

AMVETS is proud to be recognized for its continued support to the National Guard. AMVETS officially signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Guard in 2007, clearing the way nationwide for outreach efforts similar to Frates’ work in Tennessee.
