ILLINOIS AMVETS SUPPORT RUN FOR THE WALL

Members of Illinois AMVETS Post 4 supported “Rolling Thunder” bikers during their annual Run for the Wall ride to Washington, D.C., May 19. Post members served coffee and sandwiches and provided gasoline for those participating in the “Run to the Wall” thanks to support from the Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation. Illinois AMVETS donated $5,000 toward gas, food and travel items for riders who stopped at Huck’s Travel Center in Mt. Vernon. Last year, nearly 500 bikers stopped at the travel center.

The “Run for the Wall” (RFTW) program began in 1989 with the purpose of stressing accountability during wartime actions and emphasizing that no one should be left behind. The “Run”, made primarily by motorcycle riders, promotes healing among veterans and their families, and officially ends the day before Memorial Day at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
