AMVET APPOINTED TO GROUND-BREAKING POSITION IN CALIFORNIA VA

Gov. Arnold Schwarzeneggar appoints Pedro Molina as Assistant Secretary for Native American Veterans Affairs in California, a first-of-its-kind post nationwide

LANHAM, Md. March 4, 2010—Today, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Pedro Molina, an AMVETS member from the AMVETS Department of California, to a national first-of-its-kind post within the California Department of Veterans Affairs as the state’s assistant secretary for Native American affairs.

“This is a great opportunity to help our veterans and I look forward to reaching out to the Native American veterans from all Nations in California,” said Molina.

Molina, who served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1973, is a member of the Yaqui Nation from Tucson, Ariz., and a past commander of California AMVETS Post No. 99.

Prior to his appointment to this ground-breaking position, Molina served in a variety of roles with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—most recently as American Indian program manager.

“On behalf of the AMVETS Department of California we’re proud an AMVET has been selected for such a prestigious position,” said AMVETS Department of California Commander John Byrum. “It’s an honor for the state of California, and we know [Molina] can really step up to ensure Native Americans receive fair treatment from VA.”
