AMVETS in Action

Women Veterans

“In the end all women and all men can only benefit from the more truthful and balanced image of women which will emerge from history where they are shown to have been actively involved in shaping their own destiny and that of the country.” Eleanor Flexner

AMVETS is committed to honoring the service and sacrifices of all women veterans by working to ensure that they are able to access equitable VA health care and benefits. We are also committed to recognizing and respecting their past and current contributions to this country.

There are over 2 million women veterans in the United States, which constitutes 9 percent of the total veteran population. The number of women veterans is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years, and VA has been working to meet their specialized needs.

Women currently represent about 15 percent of those on active duty, nearly 16 percent of those in the National Guard, and about 20 percent of those in the reserves.
