79th National Convention

Each year, AMVETS members convene to elect and appoint officers at the national, district, department, and post levels. Every August, representatives from these levels attend the AMVETS National Convention, where they make crucial decisions on issues impacting veterans and the organization.

AMVETS National Commanders & Presidents Banquet

Silver Helmet

The Silver Helmet Awards is held annually during our National Convention, recognizing excellence and outstanding accomplishment in the fields of Americanism, defense, rehabilitation, congressional and civil service. The 2026 ceremony will take place Thursday night banquet at the National Convention.
Ticket will go on sale in April 2026

Frequently Asked Questions

How is parking? The Sheraton Greensboro provides complimentary parking. The parking lot does not include EV-charging stations. Accessible and van accessible on-site parking is available, as is valet parking for vehicles outfitted for drivers with mobility challenges.

What am I supposed to wear? "Business casual" is acceptable for all delegates, alternates, and guests. At no time will shorts, T-Shirts, tank tops, flipflops or ball caps be allowed on the convention floor. On Friday of the convention, delegates may wear a red T-Shirt in support of “Remember Everyone Deployed”. T-shirts must be neat in appearance with no holes. Lack of an AMVETS cover is not a reason to be barred from the convention floor. Final decision on acceptable dress will be made by the National Commander. Reasonable accommodations will be made for delegates with disabilities. ​ The Friday night banquet is a semi-formal, ticketed dinner event. Acceptable attire is business or formal.

What is the hotel's pet policy? Pets are not permitted, but service dogs are allowed. The hotel may require certification.

What are the dining options in the hotel? Joseph's Restaurant - Serving American cuisine in buffet style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. ​ Cafe Expresso - Offering Starbucks coffee, grab & go breakfast items, juices, sodas and pastries. Open each day from 7 AM to 9 PM. Skylite Cafe - American cuisine served with a southern flare. Open each day from 6 AM to 11 AM for breakfast; 11:30 AM to 2 PM for lunch; and 5 to 10 PM for dinner. Bar Down Under - Relax and enjoy hand-crafted cocktails, wine and draft beer. Bar Down Under also offers a menu of bar bites. Opens daily at 3 PM.

Orlando International Airport (MSO) is regularly ranked among the best big airports in the United States. Much more about shuttle and riding sharing options will be added as we get closer to the 2026 National Convention.
